    Slogans
    Motifs
Visual puns (such as flaming letters)
    Linguistic devices:
    Repetition
    Personal pronouns
    Emotive vocabulary
    Repetition
    Tone/register (formal/informal etc)
    Bias
    Sarcasm
    Humour
    Alliteration
    Expert opinions
    Facts
    Statistics
    Guilt
    Pathos
    Ethos
    Logos
    Sentence variety
    Imperative
    Metaphor (including extended metaphor)
    Simile
    Addressing the reader directly
    To name but a few!
    Task
Find an advert which has both linguistic and presentational features. Stick this onto the paper and identify the devices used. Finally, write about how each of these persuades the reader. Write about 5 of each and don't forget to PEE!

    Meaning
i dont think the persona is rejecting her roots, i think that she is just confused as to where they are and that she may be losing her culture, but then she realises that she cant lose her roots and culture because they make up a part of her.

    Purpose
the purpose of this poem is to highlight the fact that even though the apartheid has ended, the prejudice still exists and it shows us the writers anger as he revisits the place that was once his home to find it is still the same as when he first left.

This poem is enlightening us about how e.g. Glaswegian accents are viewed as being a lower class accent as opposed to the southern BBC accent (recieved pronunciation) which is viewed as posh and high class. The poem is trying to say that is dosn't matter where you come from because the words are all the same. I think that the southern accent is harder and more formal that the e.g. Glaswegian accent which puts you at ease with the gruff but big hearted tone.

    discussion
"Bright yellow" can be interpreted as joy and happiness however it can be the colour of a garish eyesore. The binmen may be happy etc but their truck seems distasteful and vulgar to the "beautiful people". When both couples are united at the "very red light" then there is no discrimination here and all four people are united reguardless of race, class, gender etc and the colour very red may signify the possible embarassment that the "beautiful" people feel when being near these two "scavengers".
